San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest gameshow winners from flood-hit areas get a fresh start

October has always been known as the month when beverage lovers all over the world celebrate all things beer. But as the country reels from the havoc caused by two major typhoons, this year’s celebration of the annual San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest has taken on a more meaningful significance.

The San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest Barkada Challenge, the Oktoberfest-themed game show recently launched by San Miguel Brewery Inc., has become a lifeline of sorts for many winners who were affected by the typhoons.

The show, hosted by veteran comedian and San Miguel Pale Pilsen new endorser Michael V, and aired Mondays to Fridays over GMA-7 in the “Rosalinda” time slot, gives away as much as P1 million in tax-free cash prizes daily.

With the relative ease of joining by just exchanging five crowns of any San Miguel Beer brands for a San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest game card and with the number of winners of a considerable windfall every night, it’s no wonder audiences are catching on fast.

Recently, 17 winners shared the first P1 million cash prize. Most of which are residing in flood-hit areas like Marikina, Pasig, Valenzuela, Bulacan and Manila, each received approximately P60,000 pesos, tax free.

One winner, a father from Marikina City says he will use the money to rehabilitate his family’s house in Malanday. For him, the cash prize is “an answered prayer, a gift most welcome for calamity victims like him,” recalling his excitement when Michael V announced the winning game card combination.

For the winner from Bagong Ilog in Pasig City who immediately called up the gameshow hotline 632-CASH to report her winning San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest game card, she will save the money for the education of her children, and of course, buy new sets of uniforms and school supplies to replace the ones damaged by typhoon Ondoy.

Winners from Davao City and Mandaluyong also comprised the first batch of winners and more are expected to win while the show runs until November 6.

Says host Michael V: “Since Ondoy’s onslaught, we at the show have always had our affected countrymen in mind. Along with the many relief efforts conducted by San Miguel, we also endeavour to give audiences not just a good time but also some amount of hope and positivism,”

The show, which also features popular San Miguel Beer endorsers Manny Pacquiao, Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, the San Miguel Beermen of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), plus the hottest celebrities from the Kapuso Network, is a first in San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest history. It was conceived to bring the San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest experience to more people nationwide. To join the contest, customers simply have to exchange five crowns of any San Miguel Beer brand (San Miguel Pale Pilsen, San Miguel Premium All-Malt Beer, San Miguel Super Dry, Cerveza Negra, San Miguel Oktoberfest Beer, San Mig Strong Ice, Red Horse Beer, San Mig Light and Gold Eagle Beer) to get one (1) San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest game card.

Cards can be redeemed from all San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) sales offices nationwide, 7-ELEVEN stores, GMA network regional offices and San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest events. Of course, that doesn’t mean that the San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest events beer lovers have come to expect year in, year out will be less important. As usual San Miguel Beer has lined up more events in more locations for this year’s celebration.
